Biography

I tried lawsuits for twenty years in the Federal and State courts of California—with hundreds of settlement conferences and mediations. I co-founded a law firm that specialized in complex multiparty, document intensive commercial and environmental cases. I have attended nearly a 100 days of Nonviolent Communication training, primarily with Marshall B. Rosenberg, Ph.D. In addition, I have been presenting and facilitating workshops for nearly 10 years.

I served as a member of the board of directors of the Center for Nonviolent Communication from 1999-2005 and as a member of the board of directors of the Association for Dispute Resolution of Northern California during 2005-2008. I served for approximately 20 years on the board of the Lawyers’ Club of San Francisco. I co-founded the Yoga Journal and participated in the founding of, and served for many years on the board of directors of, the California Yoga Teachers Association. I served for six years on the mediation panel for the United States District Court for the Northern District of California starting in 2003. My experience also includes long term practice of aikido, Zen meditation, and yoga.
